  1. In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the bowl and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Allow to cool before slicing.
